Johan for President!!!
If Johan Santana were running for president and the only voters allowed to vote were baseball fans I’m pretty sure Johan would be our next President. Now I understand that to be president you need to be confident… check! knowledgeable of the situation and how to solve it… check! With no time to rest and step up to help your country (Team) check!
“We’re still in the race. It’s not over yet,” Santana said. Can anybody question that he should be in consideration as Cy Young?
Do or Die.. Johan begs for Saturday Start…
On three days rest Johan Santana will take the mound and keep the hope up for the Mets to find a spot on the post season. According to mlb.com Johan Santana begged Jerry Manuel for the start on Saturday. “I’m all about winning and we’re trying to win every game,” Santana said Friday. “And if that’s the case and they want me to do it, I don’t have a problem with that.” How big is this game? considering all the factors the Mets will need to absolutely win this game! on Saturday September 27th 2008 and who gets the confidence of Jerry Manuel? The Mets Ace and one of the best pitchers of all time. Let’s face it… this is when you think of how a team spends it’s money… I have always said that the pitcher is the most important element to a teams success!!!
Johan is 4-0 against the Marlins all-time but will the offense help Santana win his 5th? After 125 pitches on his last start Johan may not go the distance so either the offense takes pressure off the bullpen or the bullpen does their job… either way this is truly a DO or DIE situation!!!
The Ace delivers…
Johan Santana has delivered a much needed win for the Mets keeping them from losing their fourth game in a row and keeping them on top of the wild card, furthermore with the loss of the Phillies the Mets are only a game and a half back from first place.
Johan now goes 16 straight start without a loss. A true ace indeed! If we go by the Mets starters pitching every five games then Johan’s next start should come on Sunday the 28th which is the last game ever at Shea. (I will be there, you should too) If he does not start I will not be surprised if he makes an appearance to be able to help the pitching staff get the win but I think it would all depend on the standings situation by then.
Johan’s third Cy Young Award taken away by bullpen…
The Mets bullpen is now the worst in baseball. No I’m not exaggerating! ok let’s take a look at the Mets relief pitchers right now.

What makes them the worst? they have fallen apart at the wrong time. I mean come on! these are pros… they get paid millions to do a job and do it right! There is nothing more discouraging to an offense then bad pitching. Which is what is happening right now. I need the Mets relief pitchers to step up and do their job! shut down the opposing offense and give our starters their well deserved wins!
I don’t know if I am the only one to see this but The bullpen has taken away the possibility of Johan Santana winning his third Cy Young award!!!
Johan Santana’s should-be record: 28-4 (based on 3 or less erned runs)
Thank you guys, but I’ll take this one myself…
Johan Santana’s 8th complete game comes at a crucial time giving the continued struggling bullpen a break. Johan’s 3 hitter and 5th career shutout was a dominant one throwing first pitch strikes and getting ahead of the count on 26 of 31 hitters. Ironically his last shutout was against the Mets for Minnesota. Home runs by Brian Schneider and Carlos Beltran helped Santana with his eleventh win.
I’m pretty sure Johan wanted to finish the game himself. I think if at any point Jerry Manuel would have come to the mound Johan would tell him to turn around and go back to the dugout cause nobody was going to take him out of this game!
Box Score:
J. Santana: IP (9.0) H (3) R (0) ER (0) BB (0) K (7) HR (0)
Thank You… Finally!
Damion Easley takes one for the team (literally). Snapping an eighth-inning tie. Both Joe Smith and Pedro Feliciano hold off the Washington Nationals who extended their losing streak to 6 games. Johan allowed 3 runs on 8 hits and struck out 6 but the most surprising news is the Mets struggling bullpen finally saves one for Johan.
Santana’s next start will come against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 17th at 1:35pm ET. On his last start against the Pirates he allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and stuck out 7 but Johan did not get a decision do to the Mets bullpen. It took 6 relief pitchers to blow the lead and a save. Mets did get the win on an RBI single by David Wright in the bottom of the 11th.
Let’s see if the Mets 6th consecutive win will be scored to Santana…
“Really… again???
So, here we go again… yet another no decision for Johan Santana. Let’s recap on Johan’s last start: August 7th against one of the worst teams in baseball the Padres. It’s top of the 8th no outs, Johan allows 2 singles to both L. Rodriguez and E. Gonzalez. At this point you have to wonder if Santana is “out of gas” but we wouldn’t know that cause they never leave him in long enough to see… Duaner Sanchez comes in relief for Santana. need I remind you the job of a relief pitcher in the middle of an inning should be to get the pitcher prior to him out of a jam. Sanchez Hits the next batter S. Hairston. Bases are now loaded. D. Sanchez leaves after facing his only batter and giving him first base and in comes Pedro Feliciano. Feliciano manages to get a fielders choice out at home. One out A. gonzalez singles and drives in E. Gonzalez (No relation) Now just remember that the run was charged to Johan as I see him frown…
Top of the 9th and yet another Met reliever comes in, S. Schoeneweis relieves S. Smith who serves up a solo shot to J Gerut and with that ball goes Johan Santana’s ability to score the win. Yes another no decision for Johan giving Aaron Heilman another win.
